Blackberries
Sweet, succulent blackberries are summer delicacies in the temperate regions.
The plant is native to sub-arctic Europe. As with our other berry fruits Tasmania is
known for its quality blackberries. We have an ideal climate, with mild, clear,
summer days and cool nights, so our berries reach peak flavour and quality.

thorny bushes or trailing vines, in the
form of a cluster of tiny druplets. Each
of these druplets comprises of a seed,
which stands surrounded by the fleshy
part. Blackberries can be consumed

Blackberry Plant Information
Blackberries are distinguished from
raspberries by the retention of its
receptacle (white core) that stays with
the fruit when picked.
There are three types of blackberry:
trailing, erect, and semierect. The
difference is the growth habit of their
canes.
All blackberry plants are perennial; the
roots and the base of the plant (crown)
live for many years. The canes are
biennial; they grow 1 year (primocanes),
produce fruit the following year
(floricanes), and die after harvest.
